(I was being silly) I talk about the production in more detail in some of the earlier posts to this folder. :)

I always liked this design so much more than the Toho version. Call it nostalgia-based bias, but Toho's is just impossible to take seriously what with the clunky rubber suit and the cheesy victory dancing. What I love about Junior is that he looks/behaves at least somewhat like a real animal.

In the days before computers and "special effects" what else could filmmakers do but stick actors on suits? I grew up on the old Dr.Who series so I've seen my fair share of actors in creature suits with zippers up the back. Stop motion was the only viable alternative, and that was time consuming and often looked bad for kid's TV (land of the Lost).

It's all history and an important step that builds to the next version. As projects get re-imagined with new technology and new eyes they change and improve. Patrick Tatopoulos' version came at a time when we knew more about how dinosaurs walked, and to see old paintings of dinosaurs dragging their tails looks odd to us now. The old Godzilla design was based on the older idea of lumbering dinos mixed with the limitation of having to put a guy in there.

I'm all for re-imagining as long as the spirit of the original is honored.

That much is true! I'm mainly referring to the later movies, like the ones from the early 2000s, where better tech was probably available. But then again I of course don't really know what went into them, so I have no right to go on about it. I suppose I was just sort of peeved about all the fanboy YouTube commentors I see who just won't get over the Emmerich movie 16 years later, haha.

And yeesh, looking at that original comment I posted… That was really pretentious. Sorry about that. ^^;;

I agree!

Ahh honestly I've never seen any Toho Godilla movies from any time period. Yeah it surprises me that there is so much mouth frothing going on about Patrick Tatopoulos' design, some people like it some people don't. It often has more to do with what people saw when they were kids. If they grew up on the original Tohos they'll rally around the original version. Those who's first experience of Godzilla was the Centropolis movie then naturally that will have the biggest impression and they'll defend it.

This is why I'm uncomfortable with the term "fan" which came from the word "fanatic". To be fanatical about anything is not the wisest path, it closes down any opportunity to look at things rationally and enjoy more than just a single interest. The world is much more interesting than one TV show or movie.

No apology needed, I'm grateful that you took the time to comment :)

I don't want to reply to this with nothing--but I really have nothing to add! You summed it up perfectly.
