XGB: MainTitle: Ghost Train by filbarlow XGB: MainTitle: Ghost Train by filbarlow
This is the ghost train that I drew for the Extreme Ghostbusters intro. I intentionally designed it as a homage to Everett Peck's ghost illustrations created a decade before on Real Ghostbusters (the tongue wheel and hand pistons were Everett's ideas). I saw this train as an opportunity to bring the 'spirit' of his work into the new show, combined with my own flavor.

Oh man, I remember I always loved the part of the intro with this thing flying at ya. I like how it looks, so weird and cool.

This thing is just wonderful and could have carried an episode itself. I loved the original show but I'm ashamed to say I missed most of Extreme. I distinctly remember the one about the ghost that was the house and the little fear ghost (I can see him on the side there in the images). Anyway, love your work sir!

Thank you thank you, we tried to reuse some of the ghosts that I designed for the main title, but we didn't get them all, unfortunately.

The Train-thing was always my favorite in the opening. It's so wired and just like "what was that?!"

It's that the truth? It's a real shame. I know the series had its detractors, but I would still like to have the entire series on DVD. There are many episodes I haven't seen. You can find many, if not most, of them on YouTube, but the quality isn't great.

Yeah unfortunately. It would be nice to have all of the shows on DVD copied from the film stock not the videos. Video gives the ink lines a ghost white line which drives me crazy.

Oh my god, I always thought this was one of my favorite creatures of yours but had only ever seen the front half. It's several times more fascinating with the rest, I'm positively in love.

Creatures like these always raised SO many questions about why "ghosts" took such abstract forms, sometimes partly based on obviously man-made things but completely distorted.

I was happy with this design too. Everett often combined his ghosts with inanimate objects, often due to what was called for in the Real Ghostbusters scripts. I tended to design them as complete entities, but because this was a homage to Everett it has that nice Hieronymus Bosch quality that his illustrations often had.

I might be doing a Halloween list of the coolest XGB ghosts this Halloweentime, would you mind if I included this art with a link back to your gallery? I was going to feature the train ghost just from screenshots, but they're not too clear.

On the other hand I've considered just trying to do a site feature on *every* XGB ghost. Might take longer, but I'm not quite satisfied with what little people have put up on fan wikis!

I remember seeing a critter similar to this guy in "Slimer Come Home," it's an awesome tribute to Mr Peck (no relation to Walter, I hope!).
This critter is one of my three favorite train monsters ever.

You are correct, Everett's two ghost designs that I referenced for the front part of this train appear in that episode. No idea about his relatives.

This design feels like a cross between the zany inventions of Rube Goldberg and macabre humor of a young Peter Jackson.

Know tons of cartoonists and illustrators from 1890's to 1980's mainly; there are way too many to keep track of all. Always enjoy getting a line on any of the 'greats' unfamiliar to me. Will definitely check him out. :sun::skull:

Oh wow, I always loved this guy (these?) and it was kinda a shame we only got a quick shot of him in the intro sequence. Still, I think it speaks well that I have always remembered him despite that fact. Thanks a bunch for sharing these design pics with us, as well as the thoughts behind their creation.
