Max Steel: Ammut Model by filbarlow Max Steel: Ammut Model by filbarlow
As the Head of Character design on Max Steel back in 1999, I designed and built many of the CG models. I decided it was easier to do it myself and avoid the time consuming frustration of teaching the computer modelers at Netter how to sculpt.

Netter handed much of the later episodic workload over to Foundation Imaging much to my relief. The modelers at Foundation textured my Ammut model beautifully, and Jake Bergman had fun with the animation. Unfortunately you only see it for a few seconds after all of that work!

This a wonderful rendition of the Devourer. I really like how you blended the hippo features with the crocodile. Making a stout chubbier monster.

I really enjoyed sculpting this model, I've always liked the "chunkiness" of hippos, so this was a chance to combine that with the power of a croc.

I'm surprised you didn't reuse this design for Tutenstein.

Well, they are character references for a little series I'm writing concerning the many mythologies of the world. Well, four of them, anyway.

Haha the funny thing is that I didn't want to have a career in animation at all. At the end of each season I would leave Hollywood and they kept bringing me back. There were quite a few shows I wasn't involved in, but a lot of the designers that I either trained or inspired carried my influence even further.
