Here is a scan of the original production design I did for the C-Rex a monster in the Godzilla Animated TV show.

You can still see some of my blue underdrawing that didn't get properly erased. I shared inking duties with Helen Maier , that's her handwriting on the title and mine on "original" on the top left. I wrote that so that the art assistants didn't hand it out as a photocopy.

Perhaps my favourite bugger foe from the series! Absolutely love him, his flower-opening mouth, eyes, tentacles, enormous limbs for locomotion... wondrous design.
A question: it is a widespread thought that C. Rex was based on Ebirah. Is that true?

Based on Ebirah? Absolutely not true. It came from a rough sketch from one of my employees, Dan Remmel or Matt Brady which I reworked for the main title. None of us were even talking about the old Godzilla movies which I doubt any of us had seen, and honestly this lobster creature is a new one to me. I had the guys go nuts and design a whole bunch of monsters for me pick and rework the best.

Thanks for the very interesting BTS fact! I asked because since some monsters are seemingly based on the old series foes (like Cyber Godzilla), people over the internet saw patterns everywhere. I in fact could not believe C.Rex was in any way related to Ebirah.
Again thanks for clearing that out. You're so kind to answer all my pestering questions. :D

I don't mind answering any questions, I'm happy to clear things up for you. It's just a bit embarrassing to admit that I worked on the Godzilla animated show even though I've never watched one Godzilla movie.

Oh don't worry. In all honesty I can tell you, besides the remake, the Godzilla films that are *really* worth a look are pretty small in number. Like 7 or 8.
